Singapore-based baker Susanne Ng puts a cuddly spin on conventional stuffed animals cakes decorating. Using chiffon cake, Ng makes cute confections that look like squeezable stuffed animals.
As a stay-at-home-mom, Ng finds baking inspiration in an unlikely place: the floor of her children’s room. From teddy bears to smiling cupcakes, many of her charming creations are modeled after the dolls and plush toys collected by her kids. In addition to finding her own ideas, Ng—who sells her sweets on her website—relies on her customers to come up with creative designs. “I like variety,” she told Mashable. “I like to try new designs, new challenges . . . people even ask me to make superheroes.”
Baker Creates Stuffed Animals Cakes
Once she has a muse in mind, she begins baking. Given the demanding steps required by chiffon cake, including a longer cooling process. Some of her creations can take up to a day to craft. To Ng, however, this elaborate process is simply par for the course, as she prefers chiffon cakes not only for their foam-like, fluffy texture, but for their relatively low-sugar content as well. Additionally, as Ng holds a PhD in biomedical engineering, she views the craft from a more methodical perspective .”I think I take a scientific approach to baking, in terms of studying, understanding and then controlling the patterns and processes,” she says. “For every creation I make, I try to challenge myself to create something new.”
